Balfour Beatty regional director joins demolition firm

John F Hunt has appointed Balfour Beatty regional build director Darren Potter as its new operations director.

The Essex-headquartered demolition specialist said in a statement that Potter would add to the significant experience in the business and bring detailed knowledge of sectors including aviation, defence, HS2, infrastructure, rail, nuclear and health.

He has also led joint ventures in large piling, dredging and land remediation projects – all sectors where John F Hunt carries out work.

Potter’s other previous experience includes leadership roles at John Laing, Laing O’Rourke, Countryside Properties and Careys.

The company also announced the arrival of Nick Blackman, former preconstruction director at Surrey-based General Demolition, who will become its preconstruction lead.

John F Hunt chief executive Paul Bland said their arrivals marked “exciting times” for the business.

He added: “We have a strong order book and look forward to seeing them apply their knowledge and expertise to our London and South East-based portfolio.”

In its latest accounts for the year to 31 March 2023, the John F Hunt Group reported revenue of £157.1m, up from £108.8m the year before. Its pre-tax profit rose to £9.5m from £5.5m.

The company moved up to third place in the table of the UK’s largest demolition firms in the CN Specialists Index 2023.
