New executives at CN100 contractors and appointments at housebuilders dominated the people moves in the construction sector this week.

Hertfordshire-based HG Construction started the year with a top-level hire.

The firm completed its corporate restructure with the appointment of Greg Purkiss as its new managing director.

He will work alongside chief executive Adam Quinn to oversee and manage all business operations across the UK, HG Construction announced on Tuesday (21 January).

Purkiss previously held the position of commercial director having worked his way up from trainee quantity surveyor when he joined in 2000.

The contractor also announced that Chris Martin had been promoted to the role of commercial director.

HG Construction was ranked 47th in the CN100 2024 table of top contractors, with pre-tax profit of £6.4m from turnover of £424.3m.

Over the past five years, the firm has expanded into markets including residential, hotel, retirement and commercial markets.

Since the start of 2024, HG Construction also established a new operational board and appointed dedicated construction directors with regional responsibility.

Another CN100 firm, Wates, announced a new hire for its facilities management business.

Jack Prady has been appointed as the new managing director. He will work with Mark Wiles, who just over a week ago was announced as the firm’s new business development and work-winning director.

Prady joins Wates from Thermatic Technical FM, where he was managing director since October 2022, combining the role with the chief operating officer position.

Before moving to Thermatic, he spent four years at Vinci Facilities, latterly as operations director.
