Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes Went Full Goofy Mode at the US Open

While Jannik Sinner took on Taylor Fritz at the US Open men’s final at Arthur Ashe Stadium yesterday, conspicuous spectators Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes were on hand to both watch the action and quell rumors of their friendship fallout—tabloid fodder of the first degree. But it was hard to pay much attention to the drama, let alone the actual tennis match, considering the bonkers menswear bonanza taking place beside them, as their partners and superstar Chiefs teammates Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes stepped out wearing some of their kookiest outfits yet.

Of the two, Mahomes was the more understated, opting to pair his zippered Prada polo with massive reflective sports shades and a couple of glitzy necklaces—sporty enough, but a tad brash. On a good day, Mahomes already has some major Kenny Powers energy, something he’s better off harnessing and leaning into by, say, throwing on a retro Gucci tracksuit that makes him look like a 1980s mob boss. This might be a look best left to Mahomes’s D1 doppelganger.

But it was Kelce, the most self-styled guy in the biz, who achieved a truly wild feat of sideline fashion. He elected to exchange the tasteful cardigans and rare Air Jordans of his and Swift’s early courtship for a head-to-toe logo-fied Gucci look that he perhaps envisioned as “playful prep” (perfect for tennis) but skewed closer to “Oktoberfest in Munich” (not so much). Was it the oversized bucket hat with the thick stripes? Was it that mustache? Either way, he could have at least coordinated a bit with Mahomes, because standing side by side, the two looked like “henchmen in a Jason Statham movie,” as has been cleverly observed online. Which could even be a good thing, given Kelce’s Hollywood aspirations.
