Willmott Dixon has won a £55m contract to rebuild a police headquarters in Hertfordshire.
The firm was appointed to demolish 11 buildings from the 1960s that are reaching the end of their design life, and replace them with an office complex for Hertfordshire Constabulary in Stanborough, Welwyn Garden City.
The new development will house about 600 staff across 9,000 square metres, including the senior leadership team, major crime unit, victim services, dog unit and operational support staff.
The firm was procured by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire through the Scape Construction framework.

“The new HQ will provide Hertfordshire Constabulary’s people with a sustainable, flexible working environment, which can be utilised for police and community groups as well.”
The building, which Willmott Dixon aims to complete in 2026, is targeting a BREEAM excellent rating for sustainability and a WELL platinum certification for the building’s contribution to health and wellbeing.
The new contract adds to Willmott Dixon’s growing portfolio of work in the police sector. The contractor is currently working on a forensics centre for Thames Valley Police, as well as headquarters for the Dorset and Kirklees police forces.
